Founders Cup 2012

It was a wonderful day at the Indian Wells Golf Club on October 13, 2012. We had 70 parents, faculty and friends attending our first-ever Founders Cup Golf Tournament and Dinner. Thirteen teams of different levels played on the beautiful golf course, with the scenic Niagara Escarpment as the backdrop. Despite the rain that came in the late afternoon, everyone had a great time on the green. Many prizes were given out to different groups and individuals, and it was too bad that no one managed to drive the new car away! The Founders Cup was awarded to the best team Gary Morassutti, Saul Rajsky, Ed Teelucksingh and Gary Teelucksingh. You can view photos of the event on our Facebook page.

We would like to express our gratitude to our sponsors and donors: Indian Wells Golf Club (Ed and Caroline Liptay), Leighan Basadur and Leggat Kia, The Beauty Supply Centre Inc. (Pat and Clara Chiaravalloti), Warren Cohen, Henry Francisco, Chris Greaves, Robert and Susan Hayashi, Eddie John, John and Kate Kadianos, L.H. Lind Reality Inc., YellowKorner (Bill and Shannon Harlow) and the Waldorf School Association of Ontario Book Store. Finally, we'd like to say thank you to our committee members Bill Harlow and Robert Hayashi, as well as Maren Drees, Henry Francisco, Chris Greaves, Patricia Morris, Leslie Peel and Philip Tong, who lent us a hand before or during the event.

On behalf of the committee,

Catherine Daugherty and Mimi Cheung

The Inaugural Golf Day Was A Huge Success!

Almost 60 golfers, mostly Dads, braved the elements to join together, play a round of Golf and enjoy a sumptuous dinner at Indian Wells Golf Course. Many thanks to Ed Liptay, who generously donated the course. It was great to see so many parents in a more relaxed setting, getting a chance to introduce ourselves to each other. The aim of the day was to start building relationships between parents, which you might otherwise not have the opportunity to do outside of their own classes. I believe we hit a bulls eye with the success of the Golf Day. See you again next year!

I'm not much of a golfer by any stretch of the imagination, but I had a great time. The event really opened up my sense of the TWS community by enabling me to spend unhurried time with people I wouldn't normally meet at the parent meetings or other school events. On the golf course, I enjoyed getting to know TWS dads Jim Hughes and Ed Liptay. And afterward at the clubhouse, I had lively conversations with a whole bunch of other dads, faculty and staff over dinner. I'm truly grateful to the administration and the board for their time and effort in putting on such an enjoyable, community building event. I'll definitely be back in 2013 for the next one!

For a first time golfer this was a great experience for me. The Indian Wells Golf Club is a beautiful place to have this social event for parents. Everyone was there to have a great time and we did. Now I have a new hobby and some new friends. I'll definitely be there next year!
