Summer Camp Pedagogical Director

We are interested in growing a vibrant nature-based Waldorf Camp

 

PURPOSE/SCOPE OF THE POSITION:

The Summer Camp Pedagogical Director provides pedagogical leadership for the TWS Camp and staff. This includes pedagogical management of the day to day operations of the camp in partnership with the administration of the school. The Pedagogical Director will ensure the mission, values and overall professional standards established at the Toronto Waldorf School are upheld in all aspects of the camp. The primary reporting relationship is to the Office Manager.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Management and oversight of the day to day operations of the camp with the support of the school administration

·         Plan and create weekly camp programs

·         Provide pedagogical support for summer camp faculty

·         Provide the rhythm of the day/week for leads and assistants

·         Hiring of staff with the support of school administration

·         Oversee and step in if required to ensure appropriate supervision during before care, after care and breaks for staff

·         Care of the physical space and all camp supplies

·         Create lunch menu and work with the Chef in advance of camp and during camp

·         Oversee and manage substitution

·         Oversee all camp staff and ensure they are supported

·         Lead set up and take down of camp

·         Address parent questions and concerns

·         Management of any emergency situation that may arise

·         Planning and preparation of summer camp in advance of camp

·         Gives input into the overall review with learning and recommendations for the following year

·         Coordination of training for all camp staff, including health and safety, professional practices, emergency procedures and parent relations pertaining to enrollment with the support of administration.

 

KEY COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION:

·         A demonstrated understanding of and commitment to working within the ideals of anthroposophy and Waldorf education

·         Experience in a leadership role at a camp or school, involving program development, staffing, policy work, and parent communication

·         Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills

·         A demonstrated leadership history of building capability, supporting and developing the people on their team

·         A demonstrated capability in sound judgment and decision-making

 

SALARY/HOURS:

8 hours per day during the Summer for 9 weeks, plus approximately 8 hours per week beginning January prior to the start of camp.  Salary commensurate with experience.
