Vocal Music Teacher and Choir Director

Sabbatical Position

Starting August 2017

 

About Our School:

Toronto Waldorf School, founded in 1968, serves over 290  students and their parents from birth through Grade 12.  We are located just north of Toronto, Ontario on about 20 acres including a large wooded area and a section of protected ecological ravine. We serve a diverse multicultural community.  

Our unique building was designed to be a Waldorf school from the ground up.  We have a large and dynamic faculty and staff, with a diverse mix of experience and backgrounds. Several anthroposophically-based organizations work alongside us on our campus including a residence for seniors, an anthroposophically-based medical practice, and the Rudolf Steiner Centre for adult education.  

Our school is accredited by AWSNA (Association of Waldorf Schools of North America) and we offer an Ontario Ministry of Education High School Graduation Diploma which enables University and College entrance, along with our Waldorf Diploma in Grade 12. 

 

Job Summary
The Toronto Waldorf School is hiring for a Sabbatical Position Choral Music Director beginning August, 2017.  The successful candidate must be able to work with singers of all ages, and will inherit a thriving vocal music program.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach High School Vocal/Choral music course Semester 1
  • Organize at least 5 performances during semester 1, selecting repertoire, handling event logistics, and creating and printing programs
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills. Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment.  
  • Ongoing Junior Choral and Recorder Music

 

Required Qualifications:  

  • Music Education degree and Bachelor of Education, with ideally Junior/ Intermediate/Senior qualifications
  • Knowledge of Waldorf Pedagogy or a willingness to learn
  • Experience in music instruction

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • High-level vocal proficiency
  • Experience in Orff, and /or Kodaly (or a willingness to learn)
  • Working knowledge of music history and theory
  • Experience preparing vocalists, organizing and leading performances
  • Knowledge of child development at each level of instruction

 

Compensation 

Salary is determined based on years of experience.
