Toronto Waldorf School, currently in its fortieth year, serves over 350 students and their parents from birth through Grade 12. Our high school is accredited by the Ontario Ministry of Education, the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America, and the Canadian Educational Standards Institute; and is a member of the Waldorf Schools Association of Ontario. We are located on twenty-three acres in Thornhill, just north of Toronto, including a large wooded area, a section of protected ecological ravine, and an active farm and garden area. Our building was designed for us and creates a warm and supportive environment for teachers and students alike. We have a large and dynamic faculty and staff, with a diverse mix of experience and backgrounds. We have several anthroposophically-based organizations working alongside us on campus, including a residence for adults and seniors, an anthroposophically-based medical practice, the Rudolf Steiner Centre (a teacher education centre), the Waldorf School Association of Ontario bookstore and head office, and the head office and library of the Anthroposophical Society in Canada. Educational Support Teacher
Lower School Intern from August 28, 2008 through June 15, 2009
Position Description: This position is designed to give a Waldorf teacher-training graduate a post-graduate year of in-service training. Duties include teaching time during main lessons with different class teachers in the lower school; exposure to some specialist classes; recess duty supervision; and afternoon supervision of the Grade 1 class each day. You attend faculty meetings and parent evenings, and become involved in the life of the school communities. The Grade 1 teacher, various other colleagues, and the faculty chair are your mentors.
Requirements:

Lower School Class Teacher (Full-Time) starting August, 2008
Position Description: The class teacher is responsible for carrying a class of up to 28 students from Grade 1 to Grade 8. You evaluate each child's academic, emotional, and social progress, and report to parents in writing and in interviews. You contribute to pedagogical, child, and curriculum study. You lead parent evenings, and work individually with parents to foster a thorough understanding of the Waldorf curriculum and child development. You have administrative duties as well as your teaching responsibilities. You attend all faculty meetings and assist with open houses, and other school events.
Requirements:
- Waldorf teacher certification
- a university degree and at least two years teaching experience, or equivalent
- strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
- an ability to put plans into action and a strong achievement orientation
- strong communication and interpersonal skills
- an approachable manner with colleagues, parents, and students
- excellent conflict-resolution skills
- a willingness and proven ability to work within a community environment

Alumni/ae Magazine Designer (Part-time: 6 hours a week, although much of the work is in a short period of time just before publication)
Position Description: The alumni/ae magazine designer creates a full-colour edition of outofbounds ready for printing annually each fall (late September).
Responsibilities:
- collaborating with the magazine's editor
- ensuring a cohesive look that moves forward the visual impact of the magazine
- managing the production and printing process
- using desktop publishing software for layout and design
Requirements:
- experience in graphic design
- familiarity with programs such as Adobe InDesign or QuarkXPress, and with Adobe Photoshop
- familiarity with and an interest in print media
- the ability to collaborate with others
- a vision for an alumni/ae magazine

Educational Support Teacher starting immediately
Position Description: As the Educational Support Teacher, you are the leader of the Therapeutic Circle: you form and direct this team in carrying out its mandate. You guide its decision-making regarding diagnoses and therapies for supported students. You ensure that tracking processes are in place, that written records and reports on classes and individual children are kept, and that appropriate communication with individual teachers and parents is maintained.
Responsibilities:
- diagnosing students and determining appropriate therapies
- leading the Therapeutic Circle, including planning agendas and chairing meetings
- directing the work of the Educational Support team
- maintaining a reporting system that includes educational support files
- creating an annual schedule that includes dates for assessments and child studies
- creating a Grade 1 Readiness Assessment and Report for each child leaving Kindergarten
- creating a yearly assessment of all Grade 2 students that includes individual student reports, teacher consultations, and recommendations for support (where needed)
- assessing individual students in response to referrals from class teachers, and reporting on these assessments to teachers and parents
- following up on all assessments to ensure that recommendations are addressed
- assessing all students applying to Grades 1 through 8
- assisting teachers and the Admissions Coordinator in making admissions decisions
- communicating and working with the parents of students being supported
- participating in faculty meetings and child studies
- leading child studies when requested
- generating a year-end Therapeutic Circle report to the faculty
A note on the Therapeutic Circle: The Therapeutic Circle helps all students at the Toronto Waldorf School work to their fullest potential to gain the benefits of the Waldorf curriculum. It assesses all students in Grades 1 to 8 year by year, and works with individual children, teachers, parents, tutors and other professionals. Members of the Therapeutic Circle help to educate parents in healthy lifestyles that support their children's learning.
The Circle includes two lower school teachers trained in the Extra Lesson work, a curative eurythmist, an art therapist, an early childhood teacher with Gradalis training, the gardening teacher, and a school counsellor trained as a Theraplay therapist and who works with outside agencies on educational testing and remediation. Doctors, physiotherapists, and craniosacral, speech, and massage therapists are available for consultation and support.
The Circle is in conversation with the Rudolf Steiner Centre (Toronto) about becoming a part of its teacher education program.
Requirements:
- a certificate in Extra Lesson educational support training (or equivalent)
- an anthroposophical understanding of child development
- significant experience in Extra Lesson work with children
- experience in forming teams and working collaboratively in small groups
- experience in implementing and advocating new ideas for therapeutic programs in a larger school setting
- a strong familiarity with the Waldorf curriculum and teaching experience
- knowledge of and the ability to implement Waldorf-based assessment tools
- a demonstrated ability to interact with mainstream educational support and reporting techniques
- excellent written and oral communication skills
- strong organizational and administrative abilities: specifically, the ability to maintain files, schedules, and work reports, and to follow administrative processes
- a willingness and ability to help tutors in their work
