Dates and Programming 2007 - 2008
September 28-30: A core session with Rachel Ross, M.S. Ed. Introduction to the course, participants and faculty; background to the Extra Lesson (EL); an overview of human development in relationship to learning; EL exercises; eurythmy; the teacher's inner development; stretching and lifting exercises.
October 26-28 : A core session with Mary Jo Oresti, M.A. Ed. The incarnating child; the imprinting of archetypes; different approaches to looking at the human being; child observation; a simple balance check; body geography; EL exercises.
November 30 - Dec. 1: A tutorial session with Jeff Tunkey Working with the twelve senses; activities for integrating work with the twelve senses in the classroom (all ages and grades). Be prepared to move and be active. Wear comfortable clothes and eurythmy and/or gymnastic shoes.
December 15: A practice session coordinated by Sue Martin Artistic activities and small group study of homework; practicing all of the exercises learned thus far in the course. The practice sessions are very important in deepening our experience of what we have learned in the course and to expand our expertise before bringing the exercises to the children.
January 11-13: A core session with Linda Atamian An introduction to the Orton-Gillingham method; a multi-sensory approach to teaching reading, writing and spelling; how to use Waldorf education to meet language development needs.
February 15-16: A tutorial session with Grace Worth Pedagogical story telling and its use in the classroom; painting; movements for morning warm up.
March 28-30: A core session with Rachel Ross, M.S. Ed. What we see in the classroom: a first look at simple assessments, deepening child observation, dominance check and pencil grip, moving from observation to remediation, amd moving from assessment to the remedial lesson; EL exercises.
April 25-26: A tutorial session with Dr. Jaap van der Wal Embryo in Motion: A dynamic experience of embryology from a spiritual-scientific standpoint.
May 30- June 1: A core session with Mary Jo Oresti, M.A. Ed. Strategies for working with whole class, small groups and individual children in the classroom; working with parents; making referrals for outside support and assessment. Completion of the first year and preparation for year 2.
