Fundraising at TWS – Impact and Successes to Date – Your Support is Still Needed!

Catherine Daugherty, Development OfficerThis is an update on the fundraising work we have been doing over the past couple of years and the impact it is having. Our fundraising work is vital to the long-term sustainability of our school, and we want you to know about our successes in the last while and the specific help we still need this year.  The continued refurbishing of our building and grounds relies on your support.

At the start of the 2010-11 school year  we worked closely with Changing Our World, a consulting firm specializing in fundraising, who helped us plan a special 3-year campaign and train the Board and other volunteers. They also provided us with a comprehensive list of recommendations on our future fundraising work. In May a year ago, we launched the “leadership phase” of our $1,500,000 Courage and Commitment campaign.

We are pleased to announce that including the Benefit and all the campaign pledges to-date, $600,000 has been raised since our launch, just one year ago. This is truly a huge step forward for us as a school and we still need your help.

To achieve our goal for this school year and to fund the important initiatives of the campaign, we need to raise an additional $185,000 in donations before the end of the school year. We know this is possible, given our results in the last year.  If you or your extended family want to be part of this leadership phase and are able to make a `stretch gift’ to the campaign, please contact Catherine Daugherty, our Development Director.

We want to begin work on a number of capital projects over the next year.  For this to be possible, we must raise pledges for a significant portion of our goal.  Pledges paid out over a number of years help ease the gift payment, and the transfer of securities is another option that results in greater tax advantages to you. We also have a range of naming rights available for some of our key projects.

We will send out an update in the summer with the final results as of the end of this school year, and acknowledgements to all the families who have come forward to demonstrate their leadership. The deadline for us to receive contributions so that they may be included in these acknowledgements is Friday, June 29th.

More on the Courage and Commitment Campaign:

The campaign will fund two critical initiatives.  One is for a list of improvements in our buildings, equipment and grounds.  We have items totalling $850,000 on this list.  The balance of $650,000 will be directed to our Tuition Adjustment program.

To date, thanks to the generosity of lead donors, we have a very strong momentum. Read more

Benefit Concert – a Blacktop Affair:

The highlight of the year is without question the fantastic Benefit Concert we held on March 2nd. This event was in the works for over two years, and represents an incredibly successful shift in our community in the area of fundraising.  We can celebrate that the event brought in $130,000 in fundraising income to the school, after expenses.

We cannot thank enough the strong and dedicated committee as they led us through to this resounding success:  Deb Coles, Michelle Deaust, Kate Davey, Tammy Oakes, Veronica VanLeeuwen, Regina Armstrong, Sabira Pradhan, Patricia Mac Master, and Catherine Daugherty.

With regards to the Blacktop revitalization project, we are currently tendering the work, and hope to have firm quotes, contractors selected and dates for the summer work confirmed in the next couple of weeks.  We are delighted that the majority of the funds needed is available to us this summer. We will keep everyone posted on our progress and hope to be hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony in the fall!

Our Immediate Need:

Our goal is to raise an additional $185,000 by the end of this school year, just six weeks away!  Over the next year we would like to plan for a long list of capital improvements around the building and grounds, including painting the exterior building and fencing around the campus, repair of the cupola, and new campus signage.

Meeting our goal will allow us to prioritize these important projects and set the appropriate work schedules.  To make your family’s pledge and show your leadership and financial commitment to our school at this pivotal time in its history, please contact Catherine Daugherty, our Development Director.

Thank you for your continued support in all the many ways you demonstrate it.

Most sincerely,
